The Kava Society

A strong Fijian waka with a distinctive character offering a good dose relaxing, social and heady effects followed by some pleasa bodily mellowness. This kava is made from the lateral roots (i.e. the strongest and most bitter part of tee plant) of a very rare Fijian cultivar (which means we might not be able to offer it on a regular basis) on the famous kava island of Kadavu. It has a dark colour and strong, earthy flavour and scent. It's a great kava for socialising, peaceful conversations or relaxing evenings on the beach. At the same time, when taken at higher doses it can reveals its heavier, dreamier side which might make it good for late night sessions or contemplation.
Peaceful Fijian Traditional Grind Kava
One of the most cerebral and mentally uplifting kavas in the world. As the headiest and one of the strongest of all Hawaiian kavas this powerful cultivar was traditionally reserved for the Hawaiian priests and high chiefs, who clearly recognized its very unique properties. It's been praised for its ability to stimunate alertness, good mood, cheerfulness and sociability. These features make it just perfect for day-time drinking, social interactions, parties and serious creative work.  A true gem.
Royal Hawaiian Traditional Grind Kava

Use it with fine, noble kava powder to make a smooth and easy to drink kava beverage.

We usually sell three types of kava: heady (more uplifting, cerebral, day-time kavas), heavy (deeper, nigth-time kavas), and balanced (harmonious combinations of the two types of effects). We aim to offer kavas in three disctinct forms: the tradtional grind, instant and micronised. You can read about these different types and forms of kava products and the key differences between them on our Kava Types and Forms page. You can also find more information about kava on our About Kava page. If you need instructions on how to prepare kava, visit our Kava Preparation page.

All prices are in New Zealand dollars. We offer free courier shipping for all orders above $150 to anywhere in New Zealand. Smaller orders are charged at a flat rate of $5.99 per order. We aim to dispatch all orders within two working days.

As our Society consumes large amounts of kava and as we care about the quality and safety of the kava we drink, we import some of the world's finest kavas directly from carefully selected suppliers located in the best kava-growing regions of Oceania.

In response to numerous requests, in 2014 we decided to open this small online shop to share the kavas we drink with others who look for high-quality, pure and potent noble kava.

Our kava roots are sourced from small, and in many ways exceptional, kava farms located in the best kava growing areas of Hawaii, Fiji, Vanuatu and Tonga. All of our hand selected and meticulously  processed kavas encapsulate the essence of unique characteristics of the best kava varieties cultivated in these diverse regions.

We are proud to be New Zealand's only Certified Noble Kava Vendor. Our kavas are regularly tested and approved by T.K. Group Labs, using methods accepted by the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention and leading kava experts. This way we know that we only consume and sell genuinely noble and pure kava roots of outstanding quality and potency.  We strongly believe that these truly are the best kavas available from anywhere in the world.
