This shop has grown organically out of our informal Auckland University Kava Society (you can read about our story here). From the beginning of our journey we’ve been passionate about kava science and strived to understand what makes a truly great kava. Over the years we’ve studied both modern scientific findings and traditional knowledge/practices. We’ve travelled extensively around the South Pacific, consulted leading kava experts, and, needless to say, consumed a lot of kava. We’ve learned about the importance of selecting the right cultivars and ensuring that kava is harvested, processed, packaged, transported and stored using methods and tools that guarantee maximum quality. Just like with fine wine, it’s not enough to find the right cultivar grown in the right way and place, one also has to know how to process the plant in a way that retains (or indeed highlights) its full natural character and unique features.

In order to ensure that the kava we drink is not just clean and pure, but also that it encapsulates the essence of the unique characteristics of the finest cultivars in Oceania, we choose to work directly with carefully selected suppliers locate located in the best kava-growing regions of Vanuatu, Hawaii and Tonga. Over the years we’ve secured a supply of some of the finest kava cultivars in the world. We’ve also collaborated with our partners on the islands on developing and using processing methods that combine modern technology with traditional knowledge to produce kava powders of unmatched quality and purity. We are proud to be New Zealand's first Certified Noble Kava Vendor. Our kavas are regularly tested and approved using methods accepted by the U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention and leading kava experts. This way we know that we only consume and sell genuinely noble and pure kava roots of outstanding quality and potency.  We strongly believe that these truly are the best kavas available from anywhere in the world. You can read more about our processing methods and why to choose our kava products here.

We usually sell three types of kava: heady (more uplifting, cerebral, day-time kavas), heavy (deeper, night kavas), and balanced (harmonious combinations of the two types of effects). We aim to offer kavas in two distinct forms: the traditional grind and instant. You can read about these different types and forms of kava products and the key differences between them on our Kava Types and Forms page. You can also find more information about kava on our About Kava page. If you need instructions on how to prepare kava, visit our Kava Preparation page.

All prices are in New Zealand dollars and exclude GST (GST will be added during checkout for NZ orders). We also accept payments in selected digital currencies. Contact us for details.
