Nakamal Nights Traditional Grind Kava

from $54.99

A smooth blend of heavy character, made in the Vanuatu kava bar (nakamal) style using only freshly harvested basal roots of heavier, noble Vanuatu kava cultivars. Pleasant botanical aromas, easy-drinking, and authentically fresh. Specially blended for those seeking a soothing, peaceful nigh-time kava without mental stimulation.

In Vanuatu, nakamals/modern kava bars use the thick basal part of the kava rootstock for their nightly drinks. They choose this part because it's easier to peel and wash than thinner lateral roots, and it stays fresh and moist longer. This is important since nakamals rarely use roots harvested on the same day. The basal roots are smoother and have a more pleasant flavour, particularly when mixed thickly as is customary in Vanuatu, aligning well with the relaxed, early evening ambiance of these kava bars.

Our single cultivar products maintain the natural balance of lateral and basal roots, as found in nature and traditionally consumed, offering a blend of smoothness with an extra kick in both flavour and effect from the lateral roots. However, following requests to replicate the urban nakamal atmosphere and feedback from those seeking a smoother, night-time fitting kava experience, we've launched this blend. It's crafted for those who appreciate a peaceful evening, setting the stage for a restful night.

How to Use it?

This noble traditional kava powder requires straining (click here to purchase a high-quality strainer). We recommend using apx 30-35g per session, but note that each person requires a different amount of kava to feel and enjoy its effects. Detailed preparation instructions can be found here.

Reviews

“This actually does taste and feel like good nakamal kava. Just make sure you mix it thick to mirror their style, I’d suggest maybe 1g of kava to 15ml of water or even thicker. Super easy drinking, has this kind of vegetal, slightly lime-like aftertaste. It’s a mellow ride too. Doesn’t slap in the face with euphoria, instead it takes you on a gentle glide into nice body and mind relaxation. Slept like a log, but woke up feeling fresh as. Great kava!”
