Melo Melo Single Cultivar Traditional Grind Kava

from $54.99

A single cultivar kava with a complex, balanced-heady character.

As the name suggests, Melo Melo is known for promoting a state of pleasant mellowness. This is one of the most popular nakamal (kava bar) kavas in Vanuatu’s capital, Port Vila. Melo Melo’s chemotype is dominated by a mix of kavain and dihydrokavain that together appear to create a delightful, really pleasant heady mental refreshment, but one that, potentially also due to unique synergy with other compounds, takes a bit longer to build up and is thought to act in a warmer, deeper, mellower and longer-lasting manner than the more purely euphoric and relatively-short acting kavain-rich kava cultivars (such as Kelai).

In short, Melo Melo the ultimate “chillout” kava. Great for lazy late afternoons, slow-paced hang outs with friends, meaningful conversations, enjoyable sessions with good music and soft body relaxation.

Island of Origin: Espiritu Santo, Vanuatu
Average Laterals to Stump Ratio: Natural (30-70)
Typical Chemotype: 423156
Processing: Fully washed and peeled. Dried in a temperature-controlled dehydrator.
Effects: Balanced between cerebral/muscle melting, blend of euphoric and mellow, mid-speed onset and mid-range lifespan.
Flavour profile: Balance of smooth/creamy and bitter/peppery with notes of black pepper, wood and toasted malt.

Recent Reviews:

“My mate had Melo Melo in Vanuatu and described as ‘mystical’. I wasn’t sure what he meant, but now I understand. This is such a complex, beautiful kava. It’s hard to tell whether it’s heady, heavy. It just escapes these classifications, has a bit of everything, but not in an overpowering or boring manner. It’s just such a pleasant and, ahem, mellow ride. Jane and I had it on the beach after work and we were amazing how clean, smooth and relaxing it felt.”

“Time literally slows down after just one shell of this kava.  Clear and smooth head, body relaxation, some noticeable elevation in mood. Very pleasant.”
