Tavukari Single Cultivar Traditional Grind Kava

from $64.99
Sold Out

A rare noble cultivar with an interestingly balanced character. Discovered in the remote jungles of Espiritu Santo where only two farmers are known to grow it, this kava has until now been reserved exclusively for village nakamals.

Our Vanuatu friends discovered this remarkable cultivar during their field research in the heart of Espiritu Santo island, where it grows alongside Borogoru in small numbers. While its appearance resembles long hand Melo Melo and its chemical profile shares some similarities with Borogoru, Tavukari presents its own distinct characteristics that set it apart from both. Some evidence suggests possible historical connections to Bualieu (the heavier cousin of Puariki) from Tongoa, likely with intermediate generations on another island before reaching Santo. However, like many Pacific cultivars, its complete history remains partially hidden in the mists of time. With only a few hundred mature plants in existence, this is truly one of the rarest noble cultivars we've encountered.

The experience develops in distinctive waves - beginning with a relatively swift mental uplift that transitions into an alternating rhythm of cerebral clarity and soothing mellowness. Each time one effect appears to settle, another wave emerges, creating an intriguing interplay between mental refreshment and peaceful physical comfort.

This kava presents a fresh, floral aroma complemented by subtle peppery notes and a remarkably clean finish. Its smooth, balanced profile makes it equally appealing to experienced kava drinkers and those newer to traditional preparations.

How to Use it?

This noble traditional kava powder requires straining (click here to purchase a high-quality strainer). We recommend using apx 30-35g per session, but note that each person requires a different amount of kava to feel and enjoy its effects. Detailed preparation instructions can be found here.
