Epi's Legendary Cultivar: Fast-Acting, Blissful and Uplifting

A legendary cultivar from the island of Epi, Kelai is known for its remarkably uplifting, cerebral character that manifests almost instantly. Dr Vincent Lebot and colleagues described Kelai as "the pinnacle achievement" of cultivar selection, the result of centuries selecting for the most enjoyable characteristics. So prized on Epi that most is consumed locally rather than exported, Kelai is a favourite for social sessions and unwinding after demanding days.

Character: Intensely heady with pure mental brightness and minimal body heaviness. Fast onset with relatively short duration, popular for focused sessions and social gatherings. Known for a clean finish without lingering heaviness.

Taste & Aroma: Smooth and creamy with notes of ripe bananas, dark chocolate, and almonds. Mild cashewy sweetness with subtle zesty heat.

Traditional Grind Format: Peeled kava root ground into a medium-grind powder. Contains the root's indigestible fibres, so it needs to be kneaded and strained before drinking using a strainer bag.

Blown away - better than the last!

Mysterious with religious element

The onset was very very quick. The headiness is clean - delivers a mentally uplifting effect rather than stimulating feeling. The euphoria became almost subtly psychoactive. I recall laying up looking at the sky in complete awe, my eyes rolling in krunk bliss. It sparked creativity and wonder I recall having as a kid. It delivered a soul crushing blow to my ego. The sky seemed brighter as did the trees and plants. Some kavas ask you to listen and this one demanded I did. Mysterious with a religious element and potent anti depressant anti anxiety effects. Kelai cultivar comes from the island of Epi. Scent is light and creamy with hint of overripe pineapple or banana - possibly the most appealing kava aroma I've come across yet. Taste is creamy but with surprising distinct heat like raw ginger or black pepper, washes away quickly. Effect is unmistakably heady. Very light and easy on the body. Effects are felt primarily behind your eyes. Reduced nausea, better post-kava appetite and minimal residual morning sluggishness.
